I have been a T-Mobile customer for about 5 years. My first phone with them was the Motorola RAZR. I had always been happy with my plan, so I never upgraded phones through them. Instead, I have used phones I purchased second-hand and swapped SIM cards. About a year ago, I bought a used iPhone 2G (Edge) and unlocked/jailbroke it. I had been happily using that along with the T-Zones ($5.99) Internet package that I was grandfathered in with. For the most part, everything worked great.
Last year, T-Mobile released the very first Google Android phone, the G1. Since then I've wanted an Android phone. I liked the G1, but since I had my iPhone I figured I'd wait for the second device to come out. Besides, by then Android would be more streamlined and the phone would have better hardware. Well, with the myTouch 3G, I finally got my chance. Because of my use of the iPhone and never changing my plan, I had not been bound by contract for 39 months (to which I got a "Wow!" from the T-Mobile store employee). Needless to say, I was reluctant to enter into another 2 year contract, but the many rumours surrounding T-Mobile and my more than satisfactory experience with them in the past convinced me to do it.
One thing that bothered me though was the lack of 3G in St. Louis. In many ways it is pointless to buy a phone called the myTouch 3G if you don't in fact get 3G. For a while I had been reading rumours about T-Mobile getting 3G in St. Louis somewhere between August 11th & 21st. Thankfully, I went with my gut instinct on this purchase because last night at around midnight I picked up my phone and noticed that the E went to 3G. What a pleasant surprise. So, here is me confirming that St. Louis does in fact have 3G with T-Mobile. Better late than never I suppose.
